Language Arts:

In room 3 today we learned about the difference between a simple and a complex sentence . We learned that an independent clause is a complete thought and the dependent clause needs more information to make it into a complete thought. Ask me to give you some examples of a complex sentence using an independent and a dependent clause .

Math:

We reviewed ordering numbers, comparing ,less than and greater than and the place value.



We read :

Ask me to retell you the story ?

Science :
 we are working very hard to build our " Truss bridges ".It is a work in progress. Stay tuned !

Up coming events :

- Hot soup tomorrow 

- No School Friday December 4th due to the Professional Day.

- Last day of classes for students is December 17th.

November 27th, 2020

 Today in Room 3 we completed so many fun activities!

Spelling

We started the day with our spelling tests. We had fun stretching out our words to hear all the letter sounds. Ms. Robichaud had a hard time pronouncing synonym and antonym early in the morning. Do not worry we all helped out. 

Math

We completed a wrap up check in for Mrs Shahzad. We are excited for her to review our hard work on Monday.

Social Studies

We worked hard in our groups to completed our research. Some grouped learned some very interesting facts about the region they were researching.  We will be wrapping this unit up soon. Do not worry Ms. R is making an awesome Region review before we have an exam.

Phys. Ed

Mr. Pivarnyik let us have some free time to play basketball and show off our skills.

Free Time Friday

Our hard work and determination earned a few minutes on the iPads at the end of the day!

Today we had an "Internal Lockdown" practice at Vista Heights .Our students demonstrated a great lockdown etiquette.


Language Arts:-

-We continued working on our "Instructional Writing" .Ask me what are "Transitional words and phrases"?

Math:-

- We are making a poster to show our understanding of representing numbers in standard form, word form , expanded form and on a place value chart. 

Science :-

-We have started building our "Truss Bridges" in groups following the plan designed on Tuesday .We had some great discussions about how to make the bridges strong and stable.

In Room 3 today ...

Language Arts:-

- We are learning about "Synonyms".Ask me to tell you the deffiniton of a synonym and give you some examples. 

- We have  completed our "Grade Three Angels"  and now reading our next novel of the series "Fourth Grade Rats". 

Math:-

- We continued working on our Math Mystery . Grade 4's have started working on a poster showing their understanding of " Representing Numbers" in different ways.

Science :-

- We have started working on a mini project on " Trusses" .We are designing a bridge using a truss .Next, we will be building a bridge with popsicle sticks to test its strength.

We also made an estimate about how many popsicle sticks are required to build the truss bridge. 



Important:

- Spelling test on Friday November 27.

- Hot soup on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Collect a variety of recyclable materials, straws, toothpicks, wood stick, stir sticks, wood skewers, chopsticks, craft sticks, newspaper, cardboard, string, thread , empty paper towel/toilet rolls, empty egg cartons, string, popsicle sticks etc

In Room 3 today ...

Language Arts:-

- We have started our unit on " Instructional/procedural " writing . Ask me what is an instructional writing?Instructional wringing has all the necessary information of "How To ".We made a peanut butter and Jelly sandwich and wrote down the procedure . We use "effective verbs" to help the reader visualize the procedure. 



What is the difference between a good procedure with details and not enough details?






- We are learning about "Synonyms" and "Antonyms" . Ask me to give you an example of each .

Math:-

- We continued working on our "Outback Outlaw Mystery" of putting umbers in order form acceding to descending order by comparing their place value. We are getting close to solving the mystery of stolen Opals. 

Important:

- Spelling test on Friday November 27.

- Hot soup on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

- Bring recyclable materials for building a project ; empty paper towel/toilet rolls, cardboard , empty egg cartons, string, popsicle sticks etc.

- We did writing using a picture prompt  and peer edited it before checking in with the teacher. 

  


   


Math:

-We are working on solving a  number "Math Mystery" of an "Out Back Outlaw" .

-We did an experiment to test the strength of an "overlap"  and a joint reinforced with a " gusset .

  • We had Literacy centers with a focus on our new spelling and vocabulary words. 


  • We have our new spelling words.Grade 3's focus is on kn/wr words and academic vocabulary .Grade 4's focus is ile/il and academic vocabulary.We practiced spelling words on sticky notes to take home .

We have been learning about "conjunctions" .Ask me what is conjunction and what acronym we use for helping us remember conjunctions?

In Math:-
- We have been learning about representing whole numbers in different ways, comparing numbers using the <,> symbols and determine if a number is decreasing or increasing .

Art:- 

We have completed our "Colour Wheel " project and it looks great ! Ask me what are three categories of colours we have learned  to mix ?



Science :-
-We have been learning about testing structures and materials. We did another experiment to test the "strength of connections" .Ask me about the experiment.
