Language Arts: 

                Today we worked on identifying the topic sentence in a paragraph and recognize the top of sentence  . We looked at different beginnings of a paragraph. Ask me about the multiple ways of starting a sentence . A few examples are to start with a "question, simile, onomatopoeia, thrill, and a prepositional verb .

Ask me to show you the LA sheet we did today.

Math: 

         We have been prating multiplication facts in many different ways in our classroom e.g by identifying one or both missing factors, by finding the product , and also by changing a repeated addition math sentence into a multiplication sentence e.g 2+2+2+ 6 , 2*3=6.

*Keep practicing times tables at home *   

Art:

We have completed our "Emphasis " Art.We learnt that  with the use of  line and color ; two elements of design we  can create "emphasis " and " depth"  in a design.Room 3 has worked very hard on making different patterns of zentangles to make their art work more detailed. 

Technology:

Language Arts:

- Vista Heights school has started a school wide writing program called" School Wide Write" We used a picture prompt to write about . We  discussed the picture by asking many questions e. g

- What do you know about cats?

- What are cats doing?

- What is cats' problem?

- What would cats see, hear, taste, smell , and feel?

We organized our thoughts on an Organizing Map to use them for writing. Organizing and planning is the key to a good writing.

Math:

- We continued practicing multiplication facts .Grade 3s are focusing on 5*5 and grade 4s are focusing on 9*9. Some students are challenging themselves by doing  multiplication with regrouping with 2-3 digits by 1 digit.

Art:

- Room 3 has been focusing on the use of line in elements of design. We made an "Optical Art " using curved lines and  made. a pattern with warm and cool color pastels. Ask me what are warm and cool colors?

 Welcome to ROOM 3's Blog!

Math

We had fun completing our Multiplication Scoot. Ms. Robichaud taped multiplication problems around the room, we had to find a problem, solve it, and record our answer on our recording sheet. Ask me how many problems I was able to get done.

We completed our weekly Drop Everything and Math school wide challenge.

Language Arts

We had our spelling test. The spelling tests were marked and returned to us to put into our backpacks. There was some tricky words this week but they did not trick us:)

Health

We worked hard on our kindness activities. Ms. Robichaud challenged us to complete acts of kindness. Some of the kindness acts we talked about were: Giving someone a compliment, Helping someone, Be a Problem Solver, Say Thank You, Do something nice for someone, etc. 

Social

We had mini conferences with our teacher. In our conference we discuss our Regions booklet and work.

Language Arts :

We are learning about writing a paragraph. A paragraph has a specific structure to follow. Today, we focused on the "Topic Sentence" .We identified and structured  our own  topic sentences. Ask me to show 

you the sheet from today. Next, we are going to learn about different ways of starting a sentence to make it interesting .

Math :

We continued learning about multiplication .Grade 3s are working on writing and math sentence showing their understanding  of 1-digit by 1- digit  multiplication.

Grade 4s are working on 2-digit by 1- digit and 2- digit by 2- digit multiplication.some of the grade 3s and 4s wanted to challenges themselves with multiplication with regrouping .

Science:

We have started our new Science unit "Wheels and Levers" .We will be focusing on "simple machines" in daily life . We watched a science video today and jot down the important information to use later on. Tomorrow we are going to research some key terms during our technology time.

We  have started  learning about the organization of a paragraph. Ask me :What are the main components of a well organized paragraph. Next , we will work on "Opinion Writing" .We start with gathering the information about the topic before we can write about it. Today we  watched a video about the " the King of dinosaurs" and jot noted the important information in our Visual Journals.

We have started learning about multiplication.We have learnt some math vocabulary . Ask me about the vocabulary related to multiplication e.g arrays, equal groups of, repeated addition. Grade 3's are required to learn multiplication facts up to 5*5 and grade 4's up to 9*9.We will challenge the students to go beyond these facts who have mastered these facts already. 

* Room 3 students were sent home with a times table sheet  on Thursday to practice math facts at home *

The whole school participated in Drop Everything and Math this afternoon.

We have been reviewing basic writing components  e.g capitalization, punctuation , use of conjunctions to change a simple sentence into a compound sentence. 

We used a "minion" picture prompt to use our imagination to make up a story .

Monday, January 11th.2020

We are  so happy to see our students in person .It makes learning so much more fun ! Thank you for sharing your news about winter break .

I want to say a big thank you to  parents/guardians who have supported their children  during the week of online learning .I understand that learning is very different and can be challenging when it comes to technology  .

We are  practicing more using the computers to access the online assignments and catching up on the work at school. 

Language Arts: We have started working on our "One Word " new year goal .Ask me about it.

Math: We did a review of addition / subtraction with regrouping and  rounding numbers to nearest ten, hundred and a thousand .We wrote a test  after the review.
