In Room 3 Today ...

- We had our spelling test . We are making progress in our spelling marks. The test was home today. 

- In Math, we worked on "Place Value". We used base ten task cards to figure out the standard form of the number and the correct place of each digit on the place value chart.

-In Science, we did our next experiment of the "Testing Building Materials" unit. We made an accordion fold and a flat piece of card stock to test them for strength .We used non standard units of  weight and  compared the two types of folds. Ask me : What was our hypothesis  ?

In Room 3 Today ...

- We continued with our "Types of Sentences "study and wrote our own 4 types of sentences using a picture  prompt; a statement, question, command and an exclamation . We also practiced using the correct end mark for each sentence .

- In Math, we continued with our "number " unit. We are working on modeling, representing numbers in multiple ways using different strategies. We practiced writing Base Ten numbers in a standard form. We are  going to continue working on learning /practicing these math skills for the next little while .

- We researched on how to say"welcome" in different languages.

- Spelling test tomorrow.

- Favorite T-Shirt Day tomorrow.

- No School Friday .

In Room 3 Today ...

- We have started learning about "Types of Sentences" .We reviewed  , noun, verb, subject and predicate.

-  In Math, we continued with our "Number Sense " unit. Or focus is modeling/representing numbers in different forms  as well as  learning about the place value. We went around the room and looked for the  base ten task cards to figure out the correct number.

   

- In Science , we did our next experiment on testing beams .We made a hypothesis before doing the experiment. We made square and triangular beams and tested them by putting weights on. Most of the square beams held up really well. Some of our hypotheses were the same and some were different .

    

-Grade 3/4 is planning to prepare welcome signs in different languages .Please fill out the slip that was sent home on Friday and return into the school as soon as possible.

 In Room 3 Today ...

- We worked on "Literacy Centres" and practiced our spelling and vocabulary words.   
 

- We read the next chapter of our novel "Third Grade Angels"  and answered the reading comprehension questions.

- In Math, we built towers with base ten blocks with 2 digit numbers to show the value of the number. Next, we will work on 3 and 4 digit numbers.

 In Room 3 we have been learning about ...

Literacy :

Sentence and fragment and today we wrote our exit slips to show our learning .

We have been reading books on  different types of "punctuation" and the use of it in writing.

Math:

We have been exploring the "Base Ten " system and make our own numbers using base ten blocks to show the value of 3 and 4 digit numbers.

We have also been doing Math Centers and  playing multiples math games reviewing patterns  and  relations  and  number sense.

Social Studies:

We completed our artwork (Cactus and Hoodoo) and  reviewed the different Landforms in the Grasslands Region

We prepared our Social duo-tangs to hand into the teacher.

Health:

We talked about kindness. We were able to think of many examples of kindness that we see in our school.  We also made a kindness doughnut. Ask me about what kindness words I put on my kindness sprinkles. 

Art:

We have been learning about  the colour arrangement on a "Colour Wheel" with the focus  mixing secondary and tertiary colours. We have painted our primary and secondary colours so far and they look amazing. Stay tuned for the completed project !

Today in Room 3 ...

- We did creative writing using a picture prompt. We made a writing rubric for a good piece of writing. We reviewed the "writer's process" for writing and editing . We look for capitalization  punctuation and on topic content  .

- In Math, we worked on  modeling numbers using the base ten blocks .We learned the names of the blocks ,ones, ten rods ,  flat is a100 and a cube for a 1000.

- We are all done cutting 12 shapes .Today we painted our 3 primary and 3 secondary colors. They look really good. Next, we will arrange them in the cooler when order. 

- In Gym, we are learning hockey skills.

Today in Room 3 we....

- We learned about "Sentence Fragments " .We identified the missing part of a sentence and practiced making our own complete sentences using a subject and a predicate to express a complete thought. 

- In Math, we worked on "Estimation" .Ask me : What is "Estimation"?We used small blocks to make an estimation and drew strategies  that helped us make an educated guess in our Math book to show our thinking. 

- We have started our  Science unit  on "Testing Materials & Designs".Students will be evaluating the suitability of different materials and designs for their use in a building task.

Today in Room 3 we....

- We worked on phonics with a focus on long and short vowels in words that has "ch,tch,ge and "edge" in them.

- Spelling test sent home today. Grade 3/4... Impressive work !!

- New spelling words sent home today .The test will be on Thursday October 29th.

- We chose the longest word on our spelling list and clapped out the syllables .We used a pipe cleaner and put on the beads for the number of syllables in the word.

-In Math, we have started our next unit on "Number Sense" .For grade 3, our focus will be on modeling, comparing and ordering numbers to 1000.Grade 4 will be working on 

representing numbers to 10 000 in standard , expanded and written form.

- Our pictures were taken today.

Today in Room 3 we....

Literacy:

- We completed our spelling test. We have worked so hard and did a great job. Ms. R forgot to hand them back to us at the end of the day so we will be getting them Monday. 

- We will get our new spelling words on Monday and the test will be Thursday October 29th.

Math:

- We completed a test on Math Patterns and Relations Unit. 

Social:

- We review the landforms that are located in the Grasslands Region.
- We painted Hoodoos. 

- Ask me about Hoodoos and where Hoodoos are located in Alberta.

- We discussed erosion and what it means. 

Gym: 

-We played indoor soccer, exercised, and earned 3 basketballs for having our listening ears on!

Health: 

- We talked about what kindness.

 In Room 3 today :

• We used a picture prompt to write about it. We talked about using descriptive words to add details to the setting and characters.

• In Math, we played math games to practice patterns, addition and 100's chart puzzles.

• In Social Studies , we learned about Landforms in the Grasslands Region.

 In Room 3 Today :

• We had our mini  test  to check our understanding on subject/predicate .
• We caught up on our Novel Study and used a Venn diagram to "Compare & Contrast"  the characteristics of two main characters in the novel.
• In Math, we continued with our grid to show the pattern rule .We had to go back a few times to make sure our pattern matches with the rule.We also reviewed what we have learned so far to prepare for the unit test on Friday . 

Important:

- On Friday October 16th, students will be completing a patterning test on the material that we have learned so far. 

- Spelling Test on October 16th.

- Picture Day Monday 19th.

- The weather is a lot cooler now. Please remind your child to dress for the weather.We go outside for the morning and lunch recess as well as for the gym. We only stay inside if the temperature is  -20 C. 

In Room 3 :

• We sorted  sentences into two groups, subject  and predicate .
• We practiced our "Spelling" and "Vocabulary" words during Literacy Centers.

• In Math, we continued working on growing patterns .We used the grid paper to show our pattern rule with different colours.
• We painted one word that we are thankful for on our rocks .We  experimented with some more colours to see what colour we get in the end .
