Language Arts:

- Grade 3/4 hav been learning about "Reading Comprehension" skills through pictures.

Ask me about the strategies we use to look for the main idea.

 - We did our pre spelling test on Tuesday. The pre test gives us an idea about the words the we need to practice more.

Grade 3's spelling focus is long and short "oo" and academic vocabulary  .

Grade4's spelling focus is "et" pattern and academic vocabulary.

 April 22nd, was "Earth Day" .We did  opinion writing on 3 Rs; Reduce,Reuse,Recycle.We  also made seed balls .Ask me about the procedure. 

Math:

    We have started working on our"Dream Bedroom" project for area and perimeter. We will be planning, measuring to scale and decorating a bedroom by using formulas to measure area and perimeter of the furniture , walls, and rugs etc.

Science:

        Grade 3/4  are working on the next simple machine "Gears" .We are learning about what is a gear, how is this helpful and its use in our daily lives. We are very excited to have a virtual workshop through "Scientist In School" on Simple Machines on May 6th.

Spelling:

We had our spelling test this morning. Ask me to show you my words. 

BINGO:

Today we played a Contractions BINGO game to help us with remembering and reviewing. Each friend was very excited when they got to yell BINGO! 

Social

Communities Around the World

India: 

We learned about the different services in India. Some of the services we researched were Schools, Water and Electricity, Health Care, and Transportation. We were allowed to work with a partner. We helped each other read pages from a text, discuss what information was important,  write in our chart. Researching skills are extremely important as we go into higher grades. 

Physical Education

We played Rock, Scissor, Paper tag. This game really works on our cardio and sportsmanship. 

Other

We had some great discussions about how we can be kind to others in the school, our community, and at home. We felt so proud when the Grade 1/2 class told us that they look up to us as role models in the school.

Tuesday, April 20th.

 

Language Arts : Grade 3/4 has been busy learning  about passive nouns , use of contractions and apostrophe  .Today , we have started our new study of "Reading Skills" .We are using pictures to enhance our observation skills to answer questions about main idea . Next, we will delve into  some more reading comprehension skills. Ask me about today's picture and the main idea. 

Math: We continue learning about perimeter and area. We now know how to measure perimeter and area of a regular and irregular polygon.Ask me the formula to measure perimeter and area. Today grade 4's leant measuring the area of a triangle. 

Science: Grade 3/4 made pulleys and tested them with marbles. Ask me to tell you about the experiment.

Loom room : Room 3 loves weaving  and some of us have become expert weavers. We have learnt how to tie a knot in different ways, warp and weft threads and making a loom out of a cardboard and twigs. Our nature weaves in connection to the land look amazing !!

Language Arts

Today we worked on Contraction Task Cards. We had to find cards that were hidden around the room and practice forming contractions and splitting contractions into their original words. For example, should not = shouldn't

Math

We got to play Math Games using decks of cards. Math games are cool because we get to explore number combinations, place values, patterns, and other concepts. Some of us are getting strategic and finding different ways to solve problems.

Social

We boarded the plane back to India. We discussed topics about quality of life. We talked about the different homes, health, leisure and sports, education, and transportation. Some friends shared personal stories about their experiences and different cultural traditions. 

Physical Education

Ms. Robichaud taught us how to play a new game! It is called Steal the Treasure. It was so hot outside this afternoon, please remind me to pack my refillable water bottle so I can stay hydrated.

Hello Room 3!

Here is an over view of learning activities we have been doing in class !

Language Arts: We have been learning about different types of poetry with and without a formula. Some examples are an acrostic poem, haiku , limerick and free verse autobiography. We are enjoying writing poetry and now it doesn't feel so hard .Ask me to write you a poem .

  

We have started   "Pre test" spelling writing. This gives us a clear understanding of the areas to work on in spelling and sounds.

Math:  Grade 3: We have been learning about measuring length, width and height and understanding the relationship between units e.g cm and meters. In addition, grade 3's are learning about calculating the "perimeter" .

Grade 4: Grade 4 s been working on measuring "area" of different rectangles .As well as recognizing that area is measured in square units. grade 4 has also been reviewing "perimeter".

 Hello Room 3 !

Language Arts: We started off our day with interviewing our friends about their spring break . We asked them questions and recorded their answers. It allows us to pay close attention to the interviewee.

Spelling test on Friday , April,9th.

Math: We  continued with measurement unit. We made an estimate and  measured objects in classroom using measuring tapes. Ask me what unit does a measuring tape has on it? We have started learning about  telling "time". Ask me to try to tell you time on an analog clock. 

Science: We are going to continue with "Simple Machines" . Tomorrow we are going to build a pulley using bottle caps , dixie cups and some string. All the materials will be provided by the teacher. 

Loom Room :We have been working on our weaving . Some of us are on the second /third weaving. We know how to set up a loom and the wrap thread.We will use this skill to make a "Nature Weaving "project.
