We  had some more practice  of solving division problems with 1 divisor and 1 dividend and 1 division and 2/3 dividends . Keep practicing  your times tables at home because our knowledge of multiplication  is very important to understand the division operation .

Technology :

We  had iPads today to practice math concepts on  "Mathletics"  and reading on "Razkids" . If you need your log in for "Methletics" please let your teacher know to print you one.

We are learning about "Wheels and Levers" in science. We will be making a moving object in the next few weeks. Please collect  some bottle caps /lids of the same size to be used in the project. The number of caps/lids depends on the kind of project you are building. We recommend collecting 4-6 caps .Bring them into school on Tuesday ,February 16th.

  •  Representing and explaining division using equal sharing and equal grouping
  • Creating and solving problems in context that involve equal sharing and equal grouping
  • Modelling equal sharing and equal grouping using concrete and visual representations, and recording the process symbolically
  •  Relating division to repeated subtraction
  • Relating division to multiplication

Grade 4's are require to demonstrate an understanding of division (1-digit divisor and up to 2-digit dividend) to solve problems by:

• Using personal strategies for dividing with and without concrete materials • estimating quotients • relating division to multiplication.

We have learnt that  division is the opposite of multiplication  and we can use our  multiplication knowledge in division.  Grade 4's have learnt a new method of doing division.Ask me to tell you about "Partial quotient" method for division.

*Keep practicing times tables at home *

Science:

- We are learning about " Wheels and Levers" .We made a hypothesis about rollers and then did an experiment to see how rollers work. Here are some of our observations after the experiment:

Kemi:The glue stick is even and rolls smoothly.

Mori: The pencil rolls better than the glue stick. More pencils work best as a roller for the pencil box.

Stella: The pencil rolls easily on the floor because there is more mover around space.

Bentley: The glue stick rolls fas and it is smooth to roll the science duo tang.

Sydney: 13 pencil crayons worked really well to roll a thick book.

Aisha: The pencil worked best to roll an eraser.

Amer: 1 pencil crayon was not enough to roll the pencil box.

Aluel: 24 pencils to roll the pencil box and it went well.
