December 17th.2020


Language Arts :

Instructional Writing:  We have been  writing  the procedure for building our structures.We are using the" transition words/phrases "and "effective verbs". Our goal is to enable the reader to visualize  the process. 

Math:-

Our focus in Math has been addition/subtraction with re-grouping .Next, We will be starting "Estimation and Rounding " numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. 


Science:-

We are done testing our structures. Most of the structures were strong and held up 200 g . We have discovered that holding up against the blowing wind is harder than holding up the weight. Ask me about the challenges that came up during the process of building and how did you fix them?












Important : 

  • No school Friday ,December 18th due to a PD day for teachers.
  • Classes resume online on January 4th. Please check your email frequently for any updates .You will receive  two separate  emails  on Friday ,December 8th from your child's teacher with the information required to log into the Google Classroom and Google Meet .
  • Online learning from January 4th-7th. 
  • No School for students on January 8th. PD day for teachers.
We will see you on January 4th.

We had a busy Fun Monday today !

Language Arts:-

                        We have been learning about the compound and complex sentences. Your child is bringing home a sheet they completed today in class. Please ask them to explain and give you examples of two sentences;  complex and compound. 

Math:-

        We are learning about "Regrouping".Ask me to tell you what does this mean in "Addition and Subtraction". Students can practice  addition and subtraction on "Mathletics" or write down a few  1-3 digit ( grade 3) and  3-4 digits  (grade 4) problems to solve with regrouping. Remember to "cary over "  in addition and " borrowing " in subtraction. 

Science:- 

            We are getting closer and closer to completing our structures. They are turning out to be pretty amazing ! We are going to start testing them tomorrow.We are seeing a log of our challenges and how we solved the problems in the process of building .

Our next step after testing the structures is to write a piece of "Instructional writing" to teach someone else to how to build it.





A Friendly Reminder:

- Wear and ugly sweater on Wednesday December 16th.

- Pajama Day on Thursday December 17th.  Special Pizza lunch on Thursday.- No School on Friday December 18th.It is a an Organizational Day for teachers.

Room 3!

Language Arts

We completed our spelling test this morning. Ask me to show you my work. 

Math

Today we reviewed regrouping numbers. We worked on a practise sheet to help us with our math skills. Some of us tried a neat highlighting trick to help us remember our ones and tens. 

Social

We got to pick the region that interests us the most and complete our final Research booklet. This booklet is due at the end of next week. We are working very hard on completing all the areas neatly. 

Physical Education

We are learning volleyball skills. We played a cool game. Ask me to explain how it works. 

Health

We talked about the difference between being respectful and disrespectful. 

Technology

We have been working at logging into our Google Classroom. This is going to help us when we our online the first week back after break. Ask me to show you how to get into our classroom. There are lots of fun activities there for us to practise. 

Reminder:

Next week we are having a pizza lunch on Thursday. If you have not returned the form that was sent home, please return it Monday.

Language Arts:

                            We had some more practice making simple sentences into  "Complex Sentences" using a conjunction  to join two clauses.A "clause" is a thought in a sentence. Ask me to give you an example of a complex sentence. A sheet is sent home today with the definitions of the parts of a sentences for review. 

We are learning about a "Growth Mindset" . We read 


Ask Me: What is the book about ? What did you learn from the story?

We made a page in our Visual Journals  about our strengths and something we are working on.







Math:-We continued working on learning strategies for adding  1 -2 digit numbers.

Science: -  Our structures are taking shape now .We are working diligently to complete our buildings, bridges, roller coasters and sleds .
