 November 10th.2020

Today we had "Remembrance Day "virtual assembly. Vista Heights students showed great assembly etiquette the whole time ! Great job !!!

Thank you grade 5/6 for presenting a great assembly. 

  We are all so impressed and proud of Ms.Robichaud wearing her Navy uniform !

Language Arts:

We have been working on our black out poetry art. These have turned out pretty fascinating !

We completed our K-O-W-L poppy today and filled in all the parts with the information we know, observed , wondered and learned.  

 
 

Science :

We did another experiment to test the building structure .

We had a  busy Monday in our classroom. 

Language Arts:

We had Literacy Centers today and continued working on practicing spelling and vocabulary words. At the writing centre we use "Story Cubes" to give us ideas about setting, characters and the plot. 

Math:

Today Grade 3's worked on making numbers using a die and writing them in standard and expanded form.

Grade 4's worked on practicing writing numbers in standard, expanded and word form. 

We have also started looking at numbers by comparing them using Math vocabulary ; greater than /less than .

Art:

We are working on our Art  project combined with Literacy . We painted poppies with water color on a news paper. Next, we will use the black out technique to highlight the important words.

Math

We worked on completing a word problem in our journal. Ask me about the strategy CUBES (See below).

Social Studies

We are researching the Regions of Alberta. It is important to look for the important information and jot the notes into our researching journal.

In Physical Education we played basketball. We are learning how to dribble.

In Room 3 ...

- We have been learning about 4 different types of sentences; statement, command, question and an exclamation sentence. We looked for these sentences in a newspaper and cut them out. 

 


- We did writing using a picture prompt .We are learning about using juicy words in our writing and a catchy beginning . 

 Our focus for spelling for Grade 3 is the sight words, blends st/str/ and academic vocabulary.For grade 4 we are focusing on sight words, al/il/  and academic vocabulary.

We will write the spelling test on Friday November. 13th.

-In Math, we have played a number memory Matching game to practice matching standard form with expanded and word form.We also played "Place Value Jeopardy" It was so much fun !

- In Science, we did another experiment in "Testing Materials" unit. We tested more beams by placing them "flat" and "edge to edge " . We also held the weights of  different mass in our hands to feel how heavy and light they are before starting the experiment.

Room 3 has won the plaque of the month . We get to display this symbol of great sportsmanship in our room for the month of November !!

 In Room 3 today ..

- We had Literacy Centres . We practiced our new spelling words .We will practice these words for the next two weeks . We wrote down our spelling words on doit stickers to make it more fun to learn !

-In Math, we are working on learning how to write numbers in standard form , expanded form and the word form with a focus on the knowing the correct value of the digits by using the place value chart.

- In Art, today we mixed our tertiary colors  by mixing  secondary colors with the primary colours.

Our color  wheel is complete now. Stay tuned for the finished product !
